The Recall at a Glance
- Product
- Natural Selections Chicken Recipe for Cats (frozen raw)
- Company
- Arrow Reliance Inc. (Darwin's Natural Pet Products)
- Size
- 2 lb frozen packages (white/clear plastic, green & black label; lot code printed on front lower-left unit)
- Affected lots
1273112493- Hazard
- Salmonella. The FDA collected and tested samples after a consumer complaint about two cats that developed gastrointestinal illness from the product — one cat was hospitalized; both recovered after the food was stopped. The FDA recommended a recall of the two lots, but the company has not initiated an adequate recall. The packages carry no expiration date, so affected food may still be sitting in home freezers. Sold online via subscription.
How to Check Your Package
Find the printed code on the side or back of the bag, can, or pouch — usually stamped near the best-by date and labeled "Lot," "LOT," or a date code. Compare it against the affected lots and dates listed above. If the printing is smudged or you can't find a code, treat the product as affected and contact the company with your receipt before feeding it.
What To Do If You Have This Product
- Check your freezer — the affected food is frozen raw with no expiration date, so it may have been stored for months. Look for Lot 12731 (made 7/8/2026) or Lot 12493 (made 4/2/2026) on the front lower-left unit of the package.
- Stop feeding affected lots immediately — do not thaw or finish the package even if your cat seems fine.
- Dispose of the food double-bagged in a sealed trash container where pets and wildlife cannot reach it; wash hands, bowls, and any surfaces it touched.
- Call your veterinarian if your cat ate an affected lot — watch for vomiting, diarrhea (may be bloody), fever, or lethargy. Raw-food handlers with symptoms should contact a physician.
